Oh thank you so, so much for such lovely feedback!

Poor Jack definitely needs a hug - now who might want to give him that hug...

It's fab that you're enjoying the Beckett characterisation. He is definitely a complex character and Tom Hollander played him so well. Glad we've got that right for you here :)

More to come tomorrow! Hope you enjoy it :D

Finally had time to catch up with this! Somehow, at least -- will read again and _properly_ when summer vacation starts, so this is going to be a shitty feedback :p

Anyways, great writing ;) I like it how all characters are given equally "screen time", so it's not so much about just one character but the whole of them and how they relate to each other. Jack has been pretty chilly, creepy almost -- me likes :D And this was an evil cliffhanger! Yay!

I have to say I have a soft spot for Jack/Beckett (Beckett is kinda cool is all his nastiness -- hmm, little dogs bark the loudest and whatnot :p), so... I like the backstory you've given them ;) (besides, at least what little Jack/Beckett I've read it has usually been Jack who's the "top", so that alone can be kinda refreshing for a change... ;))

I might not have time to follow this regularly but I'll be lurking....

Hey ALL feedback is fab and I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Glad your enjoying it so far and that dark!Jack is hitting the right buttons ;)

Since we've been writing this, I've been more into Jack/Beckett than I was, but I can definitely see that beign the most plausible backstory for them.

Thans again for commenting and hope you find some time to read upcoming chapters! Lurkers are most definitely welcome ;)

I really loved Jack’s POV right in the beginning of this chapter. Very in-character, IMHO, and I have to admit, I am quite fond of your take on the multiple Jacks. There’s a touch of Jekyll and Hyde to this, and I am quite enjoying Jack’s conversations with his darker self – for the latter is nevertheless speaking the truth at times. I wonder which side of Jack will win out in the end, though the events in this chapter suggest it might be the man rather than the legend or the pirate.

In the end, she was only a ship. Ten years of me life wasted chasing revenge when I could have been living.

This is certainly one of my favourite lines so far! I’ve always thought that Jack’s obsession with his ship is neither romantic nor a particularly piratey trait to his character, but quite unhealthy. There’s nothing wrong with him feeling a close attachment to the Pearl (especially after all they’ve been through together), but he actually lost years of his life, just driven by revenge and the desire to get her back.

And yet still he was so barren, so desolate. Sometimes, it seemed, he was nothing but empty.

Aww … but I can see it, to be honest. It’s way too much for him at this point of the story. He’s been rescued from the locker, a place of torture and desperation, has been tortured again, faces death, is unsure about his feelings for Lizzie, struggling with himself, fearing the prophesy, etc.
So it’s hardly surprising he’s barely found the time to recover and get back to himself. Though, one might wonder, if his feeling of emptiness might go deeper than what we’ve seen happening in this story so far.

James’ part in this is amazing as well. I’ve been waiting for his redemption all along, and I have to say, it was done way better than in the actual movie. I like the idea he’d help Elizabeth escape, but it gets even more complex and interesting with Jack and Will having a part in it as well.

The ending was very touching. I have a thing for heroic!Jack, and he truly got his moment here, did he not? His goodbye from Elizabeth was heart wrenching!

I’ve already read chapter 11, so I’ll review that next.

Keep up the good work!

Hey, love. Sorry it's taken me ages to reply. Not sure how I missed your comment.

There’s a touch of Jekyll and Hyde to this, and I am quite enjoying Jack’s conversations with his darker self – for the latter is nevertheless speaking the truth at times

Exactly! And that's the torture of it - his bitterness is based on truth rather than lies. One of the things that didn't really ring true about the multiple Jacks in the movie was that it was never clear what aspect of his personality they were supposed to represent and most of the time it seemed they were agreeing with each other. There was no conflict there, so I'm really glad the dark and light aspects of Jack are clear for you here.

James deserved a proper redemption too, I think, and his part isn't over yet :)

I have a thing for heroic!Jack

*sigh* don't we all ;) So pleased you enjoyed that scene!

Thanks, as always, for your fab comments! More up tomorrow!

Gah!! This is brilliant. You've every character's nuances so perfectly mastered... the twists keep coming... and Norrington's "reap what you sow" thought, perhaps a bit of foreshadowing? Heh. Nicely done!

AHHHH what?!?!?!? Thank God, I get to go on to the next chapter.

This -

As far as escape plans go,” Jack Sparrow muttered from close behind, “running toward the gallows seems somewhat lacking in forethought.”

Oh how I love you, Jack.
