Title: At World's End: Redux
Author: Laura H & Sal R
Rating: Overall R
Canon: AU, set post-DMC
Characters: Everyone from CotBP and DMC and also Captain Teague.
Pairings: Jack/Elizabeth - with elements of Jack/Beckett, Elizabeth/Will, Elizabeth/Norrington, and Calypso/Jones.
Disclaimer: For fun not profit
A/N: Same story, different versions. And all true.

Back in January, we set ourselves the challenge of retelling At World's End in time for the first anniversary of the movie's release this weekend. Over 100,000 words later, we've finished - just in time! We'll be posting two chapters a week (Sundays and Wednesdays) for the next several weeks, and we very much hope you'll enjoy it!

This is not the same story as the movie. Neither is it a story Disney could ever tell. It's darker and more adult than the original, and deals with some very non-Disney topics! ;-) Although we've kept some elements of the movie, the mythology is of our own creation and the fate of our favourite pirates and villains is by no means a fait accompli. In this story, anything can happen…

With thanks to djarum99 for the insightful beta, and to Disney for creating this wonderful world, we humbly offer At World's End: Redux in celebration of the PotC trilogy.

Wow, what a great start! I am very happy to see two such talented writers as yourselves taking this on. Particularly liked the Beckett/Jones exchange I have a bit of a kink for unrequited Jack/Beckett and that hit the spot nicely :D Fantastic!

Yeah, different pairings work for different people and this story is really about more that just Jack and Elizabeth.

We wanted to examine a possible backstory for Jack and Beckett because it seemed that this was one of the aspects of the story that was absent in AWE.

Thanks for commenting.

I have to be honest, the Jack/Beckett is really turning me away from this, so is the Willabeth. Sorry.

Oh that's a shame, but then I guess that's the good thing about Author's Notes :) No need to apologise for not liking it.

The thing is Jack and Elizabeth don't live in a bubble and I think it is important to deal with other relationships. As far as Will and Elizabeth go, well, that much is kinda canon, so it's difficult to write a believable Pirates fic without including their relationship.

The Jack/Beckett storyline might not be to everyone's taste, but we felt the backstory did need something that wasn't shown in AWE and, in the context of the story, the pairing felt right when we were planning out the arc.

Thanks for commenting and I hope you find something to read that's more to your tastes :)

Elizabeth

Congratulations to you both on having finished such a long tale, and this is an interesting beginning! I liked the Song, and reading about moments that surely must have happened, though they weren't in the movie, like Teague and Beckett finding out about Jack (and yay for a bit of Norrington), as well as Jones realising the Kraken is gone. I also liked the interaction between Tia and Elizabeth (I wish there had been more of that in AWE) and Elizabeth thinking about her father. It's going to be fun to see where you're taking this :-)

Thank you so much! It's been a lot of work and we're both relieved that it's off to a good start.

One of the main things we wanted to do when we started writing was flesh out those parts that the movie didn't really have time to examine fully. More interaction between Tia and Elizabeth was one of those things, so I'm glad it's worked for you here.

More to come later in the week and I look forward to hearing what you think of the rest. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Ugh! This is so wonderful and it's just begun!

This is such a wonderful idea with an amazing collaboration writing it! Already you've lured me in and have me waiting impatiently for more :)

I really enjoy how perspectives are switched up and how you display Elizabeth's feelings towards both Will and Jack. One particular part I found interesting was how Will was all smiles and sunshine after the murder bomb was dropped on Elizabeth. I can see him being all 'Yay! Even if you killed a man, at least our relationship is still intact.' *laughs* A slight selfishness to him, I find, even in the movies.

The ending here with Barbossa welcoming Elizabeth to the 'Treacherous, Black-hearted, Ruthless Bloody Pirates Club' was quite amusing and yet makes me feel for our dear Lizzie.

I can't wait to read on!! *loveeeeessss*

Yeah, I think that, as someone commented earlier, Will would prefer the simplest explanation because at least then he knows what he's dealing with and it means he doesnt have to figure out what might be going on in Elizabeth's head (or heart). IN the movie it wasn't what Elizabeth had done that bothered him, it was the fact that she didn't trust him enough to tell him.

LOL The Bloody Pirates club! They should have badges!

Thank you so much for your lovely comment and I hope you enjoy the upcoming chapters :)

I should be working on my final project for my music composition class, but when I saw that you guys were up to something this epic, I had to read it!

This is a great start! While many people may find the Willabeth and Jack/Beckett a bit disconcerting, I like that other relationships can be found in this story. It's far more realistic to the story as a whole and if anything (for me at least) makes the Jack/Elizabeth far more enjoyable, because they're given context that makes sense.

I love how much detail can be found here. Your dedication and precision is evident! Well done. Can't wait for more!

LOL I hope you got your project finished ok :)

I'm really pleased that you find the additional relationships convincing in the story. I think it is important to examine all of the characters arcs in order to create a fleshed out story and I completely agree with you about the necessity of putting Jack and Elizabeth in context. It's important to look at the story from all angles, so thank you for your feedback on that.

Thank you also for reading and takign the time to comment and I hope you continue to enjoy future chapters :D

Message in a bottle

I've been waiting for this story since I saw the trailer posted at the Sparrabeth community. So glad you decided to write your own version of AWE without ignoring the movie alltogether.

I just finished reading the prologue as well as chapters one and two, so what I am to say now? "Amazed" is probably too feeble a word to describe how I feel about your story. Every part of it is just perfect. Every dialogue rings true to the characters, and I just love the Jack/Beckett backstory.

I am already curious what you made of the Bretheren-story, since I was rather disappointed by the way it was handled in the actual movie. I loved what you made of Teague's character and I can't wait to see what will happen when he and Jack finally meet. Oh, and I can't wait to see how Jack is doing in the locker. Hopefully, there're no goats around this time ;)

Great work, I cannot wait until chapter 3 is posted!

Thank you so much for your fab comments!

To be honest, our original intention was to stick as close to the movie as possible but then just flesh out the scenes we thought perhaps needed more detail and more character exposition. As we began writing though we thought this would be a good opportunity to tell a new story while keeping it in a structure and framework that people recognise. So I'm glad things are ringing true so far.

We've given the Brethren a different slant in the story and you'll see more of that in later chapters.

As for Jack, he'll be along soon enough and I don't think I'm giving away any major spoilers when I say there isn't a goat in sight lol.

Thanks again for taking the time to give us your feedback!
